Voleo App
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains which personal data we process when you use the Voleo app on iPhone and Apple Watch and when you visit voleo.fun, why we process it, who can see it, and which rights you have.
The short version: Voleo processes what it needs to keep score, save your matches and share them with the people you choose. We do not sell your data, we show no ads, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
01Who We Are
Voleo is developed and operated by the controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
schantastic e.U.
Julian Schanta
Mattersburger Straße 26, 7000 Eisenstadt, Austria
Email: contact@schantastic.com
As a company based in Austria, we comply with the GDPR and the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG).
02Data We Process in the App
2.1 Account
To create an account you sign in with email and password, with Apple or with Google. We process your email address, the sign-in method and a technical user ID. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real email; your name, if Apple shares it, is not stored by Voleo.
2.2 Profile
Your profile consists of your username, whether your profile is public or private, and the date you joined. Voleo has no real names, no profile photos and no bio. Your avatar is generated from the first letter of your username.
We also store your app language (English, German, Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese) privately with your account — not on your public profile — so that notifications and lock-screen updates reach you in that language, and on your profile whether your VOLT rating is shown to others (see 2.4). Your other app settings, such as haptics, stay on your device.
2.3 Matches and Statistics
For every match you save we store the sport, format, rule settings, the score of every set, the winner, a possible retirement, the date and duration, match statistics (for example points won on serve or break points) and the players. Players are either Voleo users or guests you add by name. Optionally a venue is stored (name, town and the venue’s map coordinates as provided by Google). From your matches we calculate your statistics: win rate, streaks, frequent opponents, venues and match counts. Head-to-head records, trends and the monthly recap are calculated from the same matches.
2.4 VOLT Playing Strength
VOLT is a playing-strength number, kept separately for tennis, padel and pickleball. It starts at 1,500 and is calculated by our server from your saved matches: from the result and from how many games (in pickleball, points) you won compared with what was expected against that opponent. A match only counts if every other player in it is a Voleo user who accepted the invitation to it — matches against guests never count. We store, per sport, your current rating, the number of rated matches, wins and losses, your highest rating, the date of your last rated match and your last 30 rating values (for the curve on your Stats tab). For each rated match we also keep an internal record of the players’ user IDs, the rating change and who won, so that the match can be taken back out exactly if it is deleted or its score is corrected.
VOLT is visible to everyone who can see your statistics (see section 5), on your profile and in their friends table. You can hide it in Settings; it is then visible only to you, but it continues to be calculated, because your rating is part of how the ratings of the people you play are calculated. VOLT is a figure for fun and comparison between friends. It involves no decision that has legal effects on you or affects you in a similarly significant way, so it is not automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
2.5 Social Features
We store whom you follow and who follows you, the matches you like, invitations and planned matches (with their date, venue and the players’ responses), weekly matches (the weekday, time, time zone, interval, any skipped weeks and each player’s response), and a feed of results from the people you follow. During a friend’s live match you can cheer — cheers are counted anonymously.
On a friend’s profile you can ask to be told when they start a live match. We store that request under your own profile; only you can see it, and the friend is not told. It only works while you follow them and may see their matches, and you receive at most one such notification every two hours.
2.6 Comments, Reports and Blocking
You can comment on a match. A comment stores your user ID, your username, its text (up to 280 characters) and when it was written. It is visible to everyone who can see that match, and the players of the match and earlier commenters may receive a notification that quotes its beginning. The author and the match’s owner can delete a comment; comments cannot be edited.
You can report a comment as spam, abuse or other. A report stores your user ID, which comment it concerns, its author’s user ID, the reason and the date. Reports cannot be read by any user, including the person reported; we review them to moderate content and may remove content or suspend accounts under our Terms of Use.
You can block another user. We store the blocked user ID and the date under your own profile, visible only to you. A blocked user can no longer comment on your matches, and you no longer see their comments or receive notifications about them; they are not told.
2.7 Live Matches
While a match is being scored, every point is written to a live record so that every player’s device and spectators stay in sync. Every player in the match can score, so each point carries the user ID of the account that entered it, plus technical details (the device that sent it, the platform, a sequence number and a timestamp), so that a repeated or simultaneous tap cannot be counted twice. The live record also holds the current score as shown on lock screens (see 2.8). The live record and its point log are deleted when the match ends.
2.8 Lock Screen, Courtside and Widgets
On iPhone, your own live match is shown on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island (a Live Activity), and on Apple Watch in the Smart Stack. This is updated by the app on your devices; no extra data is stored on our servers. Anyone who can see your lock screen can see it; you can turn Live Activities off in your iPhone settings.
With Courtside you can follow a friend’s live match on your own lock screen. When you start this, your iPhone receives a push token from Apple for that one Live Activity, and we store it together with whether it is a test or App Store build, your app language and a timestamp, under that live match. No user can read it. Our server uses it to send the current score (points, games, sets, who serves and a situation such as “set point”) directly to the Apple Push Notification service, which delivers it to your device; the players’ names are not sent, they stay on your device. The token is deleted when the match ends, when you stop following it or when Apple reports it as invalid, and expires after 24 hours at the latest.
Home-screen widgets show your recent form and your next planned match, and the Voleo complication on your watch face shows your live or next match. They read a small summary that the app saves in storage shared only between Voleo’s own apps on your device; it is not sent to us.
2.9 Location
Only when you tap “Search nearby” while choosing a venue does Voleo ask for access to your location. Your device’s current position is then sent once to the Google Places API to find tennis, padel and pickleball courts within about 8 km. Your own position is not stored. When you type a venue name instead, only that search text is sent to Google. The permission can be withdrawn at any time in your device settings.
2.10 Health Data from Apple Watch
If you score a match on Apple Watch and allow it in the Health permission dialog, the watch measures your heart rate and active energy during the match and saves the match as a workout in Apple Health. Heart-rate data is a special category of personal data (health data) under Art. 9 GDPR. We handle it as follows:
- Your live heart rate is shown only on your watch and never leaves it.
- Only a summary — average heart rate, maximum heart rate and active calories — is sent to your iPhone and saved with your record of the match. Your career totals (total calories, highest heart rate, number of measured matches) are added to your statistics.
- If another player started the match, your iPhone keeps your summary in a record under the live match that only you can read, until the match is saved. It is then added to your own copy of the match and the record is deleted. If you get no copy (for example because you did not accept the invitation) or the match is discarded, the record is deleted without being used; it expires after seven days at the latest.
- The summary is visible to everyone who can see the match: on the match card in the feed and in the match details (see section 5). It is never added to the copy of a match that another player receives.
- Without your permission nothing is measured, and scoring works exactly the same.
- You can withdraw your permission at any time in the Health app (Sharing → Apps → Voleo) or in the Watch settings. Data already saved remains until you delete the match or your account.
Voleo does not read any other data from Apple Health and never uses health data for advertising.
2.11 Push Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device and use it to tell you about new followers, invitations and answers to them, weekly matches, a reminder about one hour before a planned match, matches started with you, friends starting a live match (only if you asked for it, see 2.5), new comments, and corrected or removed results. Notifications contain the username of the person concerned and, where relevant, the sport, the venue or the beginning of a comment, and are written in your app language. The token and your app language are kept in a part of your account that only you and our servers can read — never on your public profile. The token is removed when you sign out or delete your account, or when it becomes invalid.
2.12 App Analytics
To understand how Voleo is used and to improve it, the app uses Google Analytics for Firebase. It records usage events such as sign-up and sign-in (with the sign-in method), match started and finished (sport, format, result), follows, shares and views of the Voleo Pro screen, together with technical information such as device model, operating system, app version and approximate country. Events are linked to a pseudonymous user ID — not to your name or email. We do not use this data for advertising, do not combine it with data from other apps and do not use Apple’s advertising identifier.
2.13 Voleo Pro
Voleo Pro, once available, is purchased through the App Store or Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google; we never receive your payment details. To unlock Pro features we use RevenueCat, which receives your pseudonymous user ID and the status of your subscription from the store.
2.14 Sharing and Calendar
When you share a result, Voleo creates an image or text on your device and hands it to your device’s share sheet. Where it goes is your choice; nothing is uploaded to us. When you add a planned match to your calendar, Voleo opens your device’s own “new event” form, prefilled; nothing is saved without your confirmation, and Voleo does not read your calendar.
2.15 Contacting Us
If you email us, we process your email address and the content of your message to answer you.
03This Website
3.1 Hosting
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you visit it, your IP address, browser information and the pages requested are processed in server logs to deliver the website and protect it against misuse, and are deleted after a short period. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in a secure, working website).
3.2 Google Analytics 4
The website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, and Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. GA4 is only activated after you give your explicit consent in the cookie banner shown on your first visit. It then collects pages visited, referral source, approximate location (country/region), device type, browser and operating system, and sets cookies (
_ga,_ga_*) to distinguish visitors. IP addresses are not stored. We use GA4 data only to understand how the website is used, not for advertising. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time via Cookie Settings in the website footer; withdrawal stops all future tracking and does not affect processing before it. You can also install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. More information: policies.google.com/privacy.
3.3 Cookies and Local Storage
Apart from the GA4 cookies described above, which are only set with your consent, this website sets no cookies. Your choice in the cookie banner is saved in your browser’s local storage so we don’t ask again. Fonts and images are served from voleo.fun itself — no requests go to Google Fonts or other third parties before you consent.
04Legal Bases
- Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): your account, profile and language setting, matches, statistics, VOLT, social features (follows, planned and weekly matches, friend live alerts, comments, blocking), live sync, Courtside, push notifications you have allowed, and Voleo Pro.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): location access for nearby courts, push notifications, and Google Analytics on the website.
- Explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR): heart-rate and calorie data from Apple Watch, given through the Health permission and withdrawable at any time.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): app analytics to improve Voleo, security, abuse prevention, the review of reported comments and moderation, and server logs.
- Legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): where we must keep or disclose data by law.
05Who Can See Your Data
Voleo is a social app, so some of your data is visible to other users. You decide how much:
- Public profile (default): signed-in Voleo users can see your profile, statistics, VOLT, matches — including the heart-rate and calorie summary of matches measured on Apple Watch — the comments on your matches, and your live matches, and can follow you.
- Private profile: your matches, statistics, VOLT, the comments on your matches and your live matches are visible only to the people you follow yourself. Everyone else sees only your username and that your profile is private.
- If you hide your VOLT, only you can see it. People who follow you and may see your statistics see your number of matches this month, your current winning streak and, unless hidden, your VOLT in their friends table (Court Time).
- Comments you write are visible to everyone who can see the match you commented on, together with your username.
- Your username and whom you follow are always visible to other users.
- Everyone who played in a match can see that match. Planned and weekly matches, their invitations and responses are visible only to their players.
- Your block list, your friend live alerts and your reports are visible to no other user.
- If another player accepts your invitation, they receive their own copy of the match for their history and statistics. That copy contains the score and the players’ usernames, never your health data.
You can change between public and private at any time in Settings. Guests you add by name have no Voleo account; please only enter names of people who agree to it — a first name or nickname is enough.
06Service Providers and Recipients
We do not sell your personal data. We use the following service providers, bound by data processing agreements:
- Google (Firebase):Authentication, Cloud Firestore database and Google Analytics for Firebase — Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC. Your app data is stored in Google’s European multi-region (eur3, Belgium and the Netherlands). Server functions that update feeds, statistics and VOLT, create weekly matches and send notifications and lock-screen updates run in Google’s data centres in the USA.
- Google Places API: venue search and nearby courts (search text or location, see 2.9).
- Apple:Sign in with Apple, push delivery (APNs) — including the Courtside score updates our server sends to Apple directly (see 2.8) — and Apple Health. Health data is stored by Apple on your devices according to Apple’s privacy policy.
- Google Sign-In: if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Expo (650 Industries, Inc., USA): delivery of push notifications to Apple and Google.
- RevenueCat, Inc. (USA): subscription status for Voleo Pro, once available.
- Vercel Inc. (USA): hosting of this website.
We may also disclose data where required by law, regulation or court order. In the event of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your data may be transferred; you will be notified.
07International Data Transfers
Some of the providers above process data in the USA. Transfers take place on the basis of the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR) where the recipient is certified under it, and otherwise on the basis of the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR).
08Data Retention
- Account, profile, matches, statistics and VOLT: until you delete them or your account.
- Planned matches: until their creator deletes their account. A planned match that was never started is closed automatically one day after its planned time, an invitation without a time after one week; closed plans are kept, not deleted.
- Weekly matches: run until their creator ends them or their end date is reached, and are then kept; they are currently not deleted automatically (see section 9).
- Comments:until their author or the match’s owner deletes them.
- Reports: they are not deleted automatically; we keep them for moderation and to deal with repeated abuse.
- Block list and friend live alerts: until you remove them.
- Feed entries: automatically deleted one year after the match.
- Live matches and their point logs: deleted when the match ends.
- Courtside push tokens: deleted when the match ends or you stop following it, and after 24 hours at the latest.
- Health summaries of a match another player started: moved into your copy of the match when it is saved, otherwise deleted; after seven days at the latest.
- Push tokens: until you sign out, delete your account or the token becomes invalid.
- Analytics data: up to 14 months, then deleted by Google.
- Website server logs: a short period as defined by our hosting provider.
- Emails: as long as needed to answer you and to meet statutory retention periods.
09Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account. This removes your login, your profile and username (with your push tokens and settings), your statistics, your VOLT and all follow connections, removes your matches from your history, from your statistics and from every feed, deletes the planned matches you created and declines your open invitations to other players’ planned matches. Weekly matches you created end, and your invitations to other players’ weekly matches are declined, so no new weeks are planned with you.
Please note: matches that other players saved with you in their own history remain part of their history and statistics, with your former username as the opponent’s name, and the changes your rated matches made to other players’ VOLT remain. The following is currently not removed automatically:
- your deleted matches, which are kept in deactivated form in our database, no longer visible to anyone;
- comments you wrote on other players’ matches, which stay visible with your former username;
- the ended weekly matches themselves, which stay visible to the other players in them;
- reports you sent, and the internal VOLT records of your rated matches (see 2.4);
- your block list, your friend live alerts and the copy of your feed, which are no longer accessible to anyone.
If you want any of this erased completely, email us at contact@schantastic.com and we will do so within one month. Workouts saved in Apple Health stay on your devices until you delete them there.
